Can I use the same layer instance for different convolution layers?

One classic network for image classification is as follows:

        self.conv2 = nn.Conv2d(16, 16, kernel_size=3, stride=2, padding=1)
        self.conv3 = nn.Conv2d(16, 10, kernel_size=3, stride=2, padding=1)

    def forward(self, xb):
        xb = xb.view(-1, 1, 28, 28)
        xb = F.relu(self.conv1(xb))

        xb = F.relu(self.conv3(xb))
        xb = F.avg_pool2d(xb, 4)
        return xb.view(-1, xb.size(1))

If I want to add a new convolution layer, can I just reuse the self.conv2 ? like the following code:

        xb = xb.view(-1, 1, 28, 28)
        xb = F.relu(self.conv1(xb))

        xb = F.relu(self.conv2(xb))  # add a new layer
        xb = F.relu(self.conv3(xb))
        xb = F.avg_pool2d(xb, 4)
        return xb.view(-1, xb.size(1))

I am afraid the new-added layer would have the same weights as the former layer.

Adding a new layer (with new parameters) is not the same as reusing the layer (same parameters).
If you want to add a module, you would have to initialize it and use it in the forward.
Depending on your use case, you might want to derive a new class using Mnist_CNN as the base class and add the new layer to it.
